After a successful start to the season last weekend, the Knights cross the Pennines on Saturday looking to make it two out of two at Sedgley Park. The Tigers, who were spared relegation last season by the league expansion, lost their opening game last weekend at home against Coventry and will clearly be out to prove a point to themselves and their coaches this time around. In their side will be two players who were released by the Knights during the summer, Ed Norris and Jonny Roddam so expect both to be especially up for this week’s encounter!
Clive Griffiths is able to name an unchanged side. With no injuries picked up against Newbury, continuity is top of his agenda as a new team beds in and seeks cohesion. “I was delighted with a win last week, but that’s all it was!” said Griffiths in his website column. “We approach this game looking to improve further and get another one. The lads realise that and are certainly up for it”.
Griffiths was upbeat also about the ever improving news from the treatment room. Donavan Van Vuuren is back in contact training and is expected to re-appear in the “A” team fixture a week hence; and Ben Phillips, Russell Earnshaw and Jimmy Rule are also within a couple of weeks of making their first appearances of the season. The bad news is that John Cannon will require hip surgery – the cartilage holding his ball joint in place is torn and will require surgery, giving him at least six weeks on the sidelines.
The “A” team are due to be at home on Saturday against Bradford & Bingley (2.30pm).
Doncaster: J Boden, Hunt, Davey, Bailey, Davies, Woodrow, Jones, Bunting, S Boden, Tau, Kenworthy, Gross, Grainger, Forster, Wilson.
Bench: List, Davies, Plevey, D Cook, O Cook, Benson, Scully.
