The biggest ever rugby event in the North of England takes place in Doncaster on Sunday 1st October when Castle Park hosts the North qualifying round of the prestigious Lexus Tournament for teams in the 13 to 17 age range.
Over 800 players are registered for the tournament, from clubs in the North East, North West and Yorkshire. Eight clubs play in each age group in pools, with the winner in each age group going through to the National Finals next Easter. Doncaster will be represented at each age group. The matches begin at 10am with things coming to a conclusion by 4pm. Castle Park was chosen by the organisers for its ability to manage such high numbers of players, plus their families ,friends and supporters on one site. Castle Park has six pitches and 14 changing rooms (plus two referees’ rooms!) as well as spacious inside areas for catering.
Sponsors Lexus Cars are providing 100 rugby shirts for each club involved, as well as to the ten South Yorkshire referees on duty, and will have a selection of their vehicles on display at the ground. Proceedings will be closely watched by British Lion and England legend Richard Hill who will present the trophies.
