Doncaster Knights have further strengthened their pack with the signing of current Fijian international No.8 Netani Talei.
The 23 year old from Suva stands 1m 90cm and weighs in at 105kg and comes fresh from the Pacific Five Nations tournament this summer. He also featured in Fiji’s 29-18 victory over Italy in June. In total he has 6 caps for his country.
He has played in Europe before – last season in France for Lens. “I didn’t enjoy my time in France,” said Talei. “It was not a friendly environment and I had trouble fitting in. I wanted to return to Europe and saw in Doncaster an ambitious club and one that has a reputation for a good atmosphere amongst the players and staff. Having just arrived from Fiji today, my first impressions are very positive and I am sure I will settle in here quickly”.
Talei flew from Fiji via Los Angeles and is still wondering how the Date Line caused him to lose a day on the long journey. “I am very tired after the long trip”, he said, “and need some sleep this week.”
Clive Griffiths said “he will give us extra options in the back row unit. He is a robust ball carrier who will make life difficult for defences at this level, and will quickly become a crowd favourite at Castle Park. I have been on the look out for this type of player for some time and am delighted to add him to the squad.”
