Doncaster Knights v Otley on Saturday 2.30pm
A second successive Yorkshire derby sees Otley visit Castle Park for only the second time in league history. They didn’t enjoy last year’s visit, going down 24-12 for a first ever defeat; and the bookmaker’s odds this time don’t suggest any better result for them, giving them a 16 point start on Clive Griffiths’ men in the odds. Otley lost last weekend by 20-3 at Coventry.
Griffiths and skipper Jason Forster, deeply upset at the manner in which the team blew a lead at Leeds Tykes, have had a back to basics week in training and make four changes to the starting line up. One is positional, Wes Davies replacing Paul Bailey on the wing, allowing Anthony Carter to make his debut start. The others see Ben Phillips start ahead of Steve Boden at hooker, and Netani Talei also get a debut start ahead of Russell Earnshaw after two appearances off the bench since joining the club from Fiji earlier this month. Glen Kenworthy, due to have become a father by then, is expected to appear on the bench but Ollie Cook is on standby.
Glen Wilson will face his former colleagues for the first time since moving to Doncaster in the summer. He was a great fans’ favourite and club captain at Otley and can expect a warm welcome on the pitch on Saturday! The other ex Otley player in the home ranks is Dave Scully and he is likely to feature at some stage off the bench having recovered from a hamstring strain.
