Further Information on Doncaster 2XV:

A very good game of rugby warmed up a cold evening for the 300 or so spectators. The Rotherham team played more like a unit than the home side, who were overpowered at scrum, lost too many of their own line outs and conceded critical turnovers at thye wronmg moments. Rotherham scored two tries in the 20th and 28th minutes, with the first converted, for a 0-12 lead at half time.

After the break, Doncaster rallied and Dan Storey quickly scored on the right. Guy Townsley converted. Hopes of drawing level were dashed when the under pressure scrum was penalised for standing up, and the penalty moved forward 10 metres for a silly kick away of the ball which put the kick into range and three points were taken as a result. The Rotherham lead was extended just past the hour when their centre strolled through poor tackling off slow ruck ball, but that was negated when Oliver Cook got a try back from Doncaster after a 5 metre line out with 10 minutes to play. Try as the home side did, and they came close twice, they couldnt breach the well organised visitors' defence and the final nail was driven into the coffin when Rotherham drove over an attacking line out maul with 5 minutes to play.

Rotherham deservedly now head the N2C table and look like a very hard side to beat. It was a fast and physical match without any hint of foul play and a credit to both sides and to referee David Stephens who controlled the game admirably.
