2008/2009 Season Introduction (Updated 06/10/08) |
Colts & Academy & Phoenix This season the Doncaster Colts (U19s) team will be run as a separate entity from the Doncaster Academy. Unfortunately, due to league restrictions and reduced squad and coaching resource, it will not be possible to field two teams (as was undertaken last season for the U17s). This does mean however, that there will be a large squad of players competing for games at the weekend. To try and ensure that players get as much game time as possible and forge closer links with the senior club sides, we plan to rotate players (by prior agreement) on a weekly basis into the Doncaster Phoenix side(s). Part of this collaboration will involve joining the Doncaster Phoenix training sessions during the week prior to the game also. Colts News & Forum Previously, the Colts management have posted team fixture and squad messages on the Colts forum page. This was an interim measure whilst the Colts news page was being enabled. Now, all future announcements will be made via the dedicated Colts news page. So please check the news pages here first. Rugby Training Currently, Colts training is every Friday evening 5.30pm-7.30pm. As part of the new closer links between the Colts and Phoenix, it has been agreed that once a month there will be joint training session. These training sessions will be coached by Phoenix and Colts coaches alternately. The first joint training session was on 23/09/08 and was coached by Phoenix's Dave Senior and a Doncaster Knights 1st XV player: George Hughes. This sessions was very well received by the Colts and will set the foundations for future joint training sessions. Fixture List The fixture list for the Colts League, Yorkshire Cup and National Cup has been published - see the Fixtures webpage. Furthermore there are also the Doncaster Phoenix games ... so there will be plenty of rugby games on offer. Next game is HOME v Leeds Freshers on 19/10/08.
