Further Information on Darlington Ladies:

The team decided to travel to Darlington for the game despite having a number of injured players and players who were returning after taking time off. The game was very definitely one of two halves, with Darlington having the best of the play in the first half and the Demons fighting back in the second half.

The large pitch suited the large Darlington pack which ran riot in the early stages whilst the Demons were still trying to establish themselves in the game. Strong running from the Darlington front row led to them establishing an early lead, and dominating the play up until half time. The Demons defended well throughout the first half, led by good tackling from Psycho, Brandy and Jimmy Crankie under extreme pressure and this determined effort was highlighted brilliantly by Lara Croft’s effort’s, tracking back the extremely quick Darlington winger and saving a certain try in the corner injuring herself in the process. The Demons then showed great determination and were able to put together some great passing movements and were able to clear their lines with great kicking from Psycho and Brandy, to keep Darlington at bay for the rest of the half and turning round  22-0 behind.

The Demons came out fighting in the second half and used the wind to their advantage putting pressure on the Darlington line straight away with good passing and kicking in the backs and great running from Jimmy Crankie, Maggie and Trump in the forwards. The Demons were able to dominate for the first 10 minutes of the second half, putting Darlington under extreme pressure, and forcing them to concede 5 penalties in a row and leaving them unable to clear the ball from their own 22 metre area. The Demons efforts were finally rewarded by a great team try, finished off by Brandy under the posts following some strong running in the forwards and good passing in the backs. The Demons soon found themselves back in the Darlington 22 following some more impressive passing and running from the forwards and an excellent kick from Psycho. Once again Darlington were unable to keep the Demons at bay and from a strong scrum Beanie and Brandy combined well on the blind side for Brandy to score in the corner. The Demon’s third and final try was a moment of individual brilliance from stand in scrum half Beanie. Beanie collected the ball from the base of the scrum on her own 10-metre line and out paced the Darlington defence to touch down in the corner.

The remainder of the game was a close contest with both teams having opportunities to score tries, but unfortunately for the Demons the Darlington defence held firm, and a tired Demons team conceded 3 late tries to go a score of 47-17 which didn’t reflect the closeness of the game.

The Girl of the Game award went to Brandy on her first appearance for the team after showing some great defence and strong running, but the pleasure of taking part in the boat race fell to Psycho who beat off her competition easily.

DEMONS you can feel proud of the way you ALL played and showed great spirit and determination to play well after a difficult start. Well Done Girls !!!! Blaydon at home 2pm this coming Sunday!
