Demons 45 - Durham 12
The Demons came out as a team, right from the start they came together to play together. Within the first 5 minutes the game ‘the claw’ a.k.a. Ash nipped through Durham’s defenses to score close to the posts. A conversion from Psycho put the Demons on 7. With Demon heads held high the Demons didn’t lose their cool, pressure from the forwards Caz and Jenny meant that the Demons were given a turnover which was taken advantage of by Caz’s keen eye for a chip and a chase by Psycho who crossed the line, shortly followed by Beanie in support. Psycho with a taste for tries powered over the try line and converted again, but not without some fantastic play from the backs Shaz and Liana. Before long after some hard scrummaging from the Demon pack Ash pushed through over the line to put yet another score on the scoreboard. Psycho’s boot put up another conversion despite strong winds and Liana having to nervously hold the ball. Close to half time and the Durham girls seemed to have no reply to Demons’ attacks and defences but the Demons’ confidence faltered as they watched Durham City cross the line for their first time seconds before the half time whistle blew. A conversion put the half time score at 26-7 to the Demons.
The Demons started the second half with some fantastic mauling notably Sicknote and Kay, the Demons powered towards the line. Through Demon pressure the Durham ladies gave away a penalty which was taken by Tigger on a crash ball straight over the line. Again Psycho’s boot put yet more points on the board. With the Demons’ confidence back the Durham girls tried yet another assault towards the try line that was stopped by some excellent rucking and mauling by the forwards notably Sticky who really made her presence felt in some crucial rucks. Unfortunately the Durham girls crashed over the line for a score that was unconverted. As expected by the Demons, the Durham ladies used the wind to their advantage but some fanatic play by our full back Becki, no further scores were given to the Durham Ladies. Some fantastic play from Lara Croft saw the Demons turning over the ball as the tackles on the Durham scrum half left her unable to pass out on many occasions. Unsatisfied with the score Captain Croft urged her players up field and Beanie broke through the defences to outstrip the Durham girls’ pace, allowing her a score under the post. Conversion by Psycho. After the backs’ success the forwards pushed again for a try close to the Durham line. Caz picked through the Durham players to score under the posts. Unfortunately the conversion hit the posts. Having given their all the Demons battled on. Gabi finished the match with a kick… her first ever.
Mention to Ali who had a fantastic match as always, we couldn’t do it with out our watergirl/first aid box carrier/ cheerleader/ everything elser...
