Further Information on Doncaster Phoenix:

Saturday saw Phoenix entertain their esteemed sponsors and further secure another two points with their second double of the season over forth placed Bramley.

The side remained much the same as Halifax with the inclusion of Steve Maguire on the wing after an impressive debut against Pontefract 2’s.

Doncaster Phoenix started the match in dominant style and with debutant Maguire receiving early ball he did make yards and put the visitors to the test. The pack also looked good with some strong foray’s from the back row of Germaine, French and Oliver. However the reflection of the day was that the final pass was knocked on, went forward, forced or trying to offload when going to ground was the better option.

For all their dominance Doncaster failed to breach the line and had to settle for two John ‘Who’s the Daddy!’ Ellis penalties.

The best opportunity in the first half came in the backs with Burton finding the gap midfield to the right and steaming up with Elliot in support and had the pass gone to hand then the score would have certainly been on, however this being Yorkshire 4 it didn’t and 6-0 was the outcome of a dominant if not productive first half. It was Bramley who finished stronger and only had themselves to blame when their second row got yellow carded for barging the ruck after a period of sustained pressure before the whistle.

The second half was in much the same vain as the first with Phoenix maintaining their dominance with only two penalties to show from Ellis and Bramley again finishing stronger only this time for the scrum half to be sin binned after getting involved with some niggle with Greenslade around the scrum.

On the day not a game for the connoisseurs but the old adage applies even when Phoenix didn’t play so well they still came out winning and a maintain their push for Yorkshire 3 rugby.

Phoenix’s successful day was topped with news that the seconds completed a comfortable win at Bramley by 20 points to maintain their challenge in the merit table.
