Doncaster Phoenix returned to winning ways with a comprehensive defeat over Yorkshire 5 rivals Marist from Hull. Indeed the day was to prove the Tim Elliot Show who contributed 36 points to the Phoenix total.

The game was won ultimately by superior fitness and a better drilled side which highlighted the difference in the two sides leagues status.

By half time Phoenix were 33 points to the good with scores from Elliot Tim (2 tries and 4 conversions), Elliot Tom (1 try), Martin Lowcock (1try) and Mike Liddle (1try). Highlights of the first half must have been Martin Lowcock being boshed from the rather large Marist back row and his jinking try.

The second half saw scores from Elliot Tim (2 tries and 4 conversions) Adam ‘grumpos!’ Burton (1try) and Ben Millar (1try). To their credit Marist did show soe good spells with a seventy yard try from their speedy centre and a score from their prop when down to fourteen.

However the difference in league status saw produced the expected result with a second round fixture at home to Rotherham Phoenix or Whitby waiting.
