Further Information on Doncaster Phoenix 2XV:

The Phonix 2nd XV put a more than competant display to score an enphatic victory of visiting York RI whom in the earlier fixture this season it was RI who recoded the win.

From the outset it was the home side who took momentum and the game to the visitors with the forwards looking to impinge their authoirty courstesy of some barnestomring runs from the likes of Sheehan, Nithsdale and Mundy.

From gaining forward domination the first score came when the forwards secured the ball right and swung it left with Wayne Barnes breaking the last tackle to go through under the posts.

Barnes added a further score again after the forward did the graft for the ball to be released which Barnes dummied the scissors and dog-legged through to again go under the posts.

With Sheehan showing the dominating forward running he is capable of he to then added his name to the score sheet.

Ever in the ascendancy further tries came in the first half from Watts and Mittchel with a reply from RI with the ref playing a 48 minute first half.

The second half was again one way traffic with further scores from Barnes (who is saving his jug for the Aireborough game), Nithsdale, Bray and Mitchell.

Then came the resurrection of the Welsh wizard -who has more metal in him that it takes him half an hour to get through airport security - Roger Morris out of retirment to come and pick up like he had never left. After taking 30 minutes to put all his necessary strappings and foam on he took to the field of play and banged a brace of tries with his huge frame boshing the weary RI defence into submission.

Then came the moment of the game with young Barnes breaking through with his skipper in support screaming to allow him the moment of glory he craves, young Barnes compeltey ignored the screams and pleas and did what a good forward does and went to ground to nicely present the ball - much to Captain Skidmore's dismay!

At the end of the day this was an extremely competant and spectator friendly game which will present one or two tricky decsions for the coaching committee come the 10th May.
