Further Information on Ranby Prison:

It was no surprise that Doncaster came up against a young, fit and well-drilled team in Saturday’s fixture at Ranby Prison.

The Dragons competed well for long periods of the match, particularly at the maul, but struggled to break down opposition that were physical in the tackle and enthusiastic at the ruck.
Doncaster held almost all the possession and territory in the opening quarter yet somehow managed to trail by 21 points. Two breakaway tries run from their 22 and a mix up in midfield giving Ranby a lead they never lost. The hot and dry conditions suited the hosts throughout, playing an expansive game at a fast pace with the added bonus of numerous replacements.

The second half continued as the first, resolute defence by the Dragons eventually being broken down. To their credit the Dragons fought to the end and were rewarded when Richie Mallinder fell over for a try poaching a loose ball at a lineout on the Ranby line, Dave Thomas kicking the touchline conversion. The final score was a fair representation of the difference between the sides. Dragons can look forward to the season knowing that the quality of opposition is unlikely to be as young, strong and fit!.
