Barton on Humber 1XV 32 Doncaster Dragons 13
A somewhat flattering score line to a game that was in the balance till the last five minutes. Despite playing against a strong breeze and uphill the Dragons forwards soon gained control and territorial advantage using superior strength and technical know-how to keep the ball tight, restricting Barton 1st XV to a penalty and two tries in the first half. Turning round only 15-0 down the Dragons set into their much younger opposition and were rewarded with an early penalty by Dave Thomas. Richie Mallinder then got on the score sheet for the second week running being driven over from a lineout. Barton’s defence was resolute throughout and their backs threw the ball wide whenever they could leading to a well worked try in the corner. Howard Potts marked his return to score the Dragons second try following another period of sustained forward pressure. However, it was not to be the Dragons day and two tries in the final minutes wrapped up the game for Barton.
Overall this was a cracking effort by the Dragons against a team that remain highly competitive in their respective league.
Man of the Match – Bob Christie [ran his socks off]
W*nker of the Week – Bob Christie [reacted like a deranged chimpanzee after getting a love tap from the opposition fly half].
