Doncaster applied the initial pressure, but it was the home side that took the lead in the 6th minute with an easy penalty awarded under the posts. Sandal then dominated the play and were awarded a try in the 29th minute in the left hand corner, the conversion was missed and the home side went in at the break with an 8 – 0 advantage.
After the break the Doncaster forwards upped their performance and took the game to Sandal, after a hard fought twenty minutes, the visitors scored a well deserved try with full back Kyle Billam making an individual run to touch down from 20 metres. The try was duly converted by fly half Rickie Tipper and Sandal’s lead reduced to one point. In the 23rd minute Doncaster slotted a penalty to take the lead. However the lead was short lived an the home side replied with a well worked try in the right hand corner just two minutes later, the conversion missed took the score to 13 – 10 in Sandal’s favour. Doncaster raised the intensity and scored again from a 5m lineout through a forwards drive after 30 minutes but was unable to convert the try. This score gave Doncaster the lead 15 – 13 with just four minutes of the match remaining. The home side put the visitors under pressure once again and were rewarded in the final minute with a well taken drop goal by their full back. The final whistle saw this tight fought contest conclude in a victory for Sandal by the smallest of margins 16-15. |
