With Seaham withdrawing from the EDF trophy it left Phoenix to fulfil their original fixture with Sheffield Tigers seconds.

The side was a much-changed side from previous weeks giving the coaching staff the opportunity to look at players who had been performing well for Phoenix 2’s. These included Fielding at prop, Reverend Skidmore at lock, Paul Tyrer in the pack, Jonny Stuart at fly half and Joe Watts at full back.

Overall the game proved to be a sloppy performance with a couple of late home tries impacting on the final score.

Creditable performances were put in from Fielding who looked good around the pitch, Skidmore performed well in the line out pressuring the home side with Greenslade proving his usual tenacious self and a steady performance with Watts at full back.

It is a return to league action next Saturday and Phoenix will need to produce an improved performance to maintain their top two status against opposition who would also like to pursue promotion.
