Doncaster Colts 36 v Sheffield Colts 3
After last week’s narrow win against Pocklington the Donny lads were up for the game against Sheffield Colts on a fine warm autumn afternoon.
With Doncaster having a number of lads away with respective county u18s and U19s Yorkshire sides, this was again a good opportunity for the remainder of the lads to make a mark on the respective playing positions.
Doncaster started well with a try early on the in the game. The rucking continued to improve on last week’s game and the penalty count was also greatly reduced.
The team looked and started to play like a unit and the open play support was good along with forwards support.
A number of players put in very good performances leaving the selections for the coaching staff in future weeks with some dilemmas for the starting line ups.
Doncaster defence was a credit to the whole team and a number of try scoring tackles prevented Sheffield getting over the try line.
Two penalties conceded by Doncaster whilst attacking in Sheffield 5 meter line could have been avoided and the opportunity of a further 2 try’s went begging.
Two forward passes in open play after beating the oppositions last man was also disappointing which on another day would have been another 2 try’s.
Sheffield in the later stages of the game put Doncaster under pressure much to Sheffield’s credit but the resilience of the home team proved too much for the visitors.
The coaching staff was pleased with the performance on the day with a few lessons to take to this weeks training ground.
Try scores Billam, Marshbank, Makepeace, Lee and Hall
