Doncaster 10 – Dinnington 17
A pleasing first league outing for many of the new younger Doncaster colts that got a taste of what colts’ rugby will be like this season. Two evenly matched teams played the game at high intensity for the first three quarters of the game and the last quarter both sides showing signs of a hard game with mistakes starting to creep in.
The Doncaster backs worked well throughout the game and threatened the opposition on a number of occasions only for the home side not to finish off the hard work, with the final ball missing its target a number of times
Doncaster’s mistakes cost them dearly and a hard Dinnington side monopolised on these errors. Dinnington’s Pack performed like usual with the catch and drive or driving maul whenever they got the opportunity, Doncaster defence early on in the game disrupted this on a number of occasions at the lineout before the ref seemed to have a change of mind.
The forwards found the game hard and demanding and matched the visitor’s ball for ball throughout the game. An excellent show by both sides and a good game to watch despite having no voice left after the game.
Two missed penalties by Doncaster would have given us a much closer end result, in a game that could have gone either way. A draw would have been the right result on the night
Tries: Bailey. Penalty: Slingsby. Conversation: Slingsby
The leaves the door open for the Nat Colts Cup match to be played between the two teams in the near future (information will be posted on the web site)
Well-done lads
