National Colts Cup- Dinnington 39 – Doncaster 0

A depleted side turned up to play last year’s National Colts Cup semi finalist and Yorkshire cup holders, which was always going to be a tough encounter. Having played them previously at home in a league game with a stronger squad the result today reflected just how depleted the squad was due to a significant number of players away with a local school rugby team to IOM, and a number ill and university demands.

Despite almost calling the fixture off due to numbers of players available the coach and manager decided with the Yorkshire trials and fixture situation things would be no better on another date and the fixture had to be played by 15^th Oct deadline anyway. 

With 40% of the players playing out of position and no front row replacements the lads give 100% and at times threatened the opposition defence being within 5 meters of the try line without coming away with the points. A number of passes went astray for the winger, which on another day would have left the winger home and dry for at least 3 tries. In the second half Doncaster were camped in the oppositions half for 20 mins, which showed the resilience of the squad.

Despite the result I would like to thank all the lads who turned up and put in 101%  - Thank you

Our attentions are now focused on next weekend’s league fixture with Pocklington.

I would also like to point out that negative criticism towards the coaches’ playing positions choices, team selection and players’ ability is not welcomed from the sidelines during matches. Should any player’s  parents have any grievance or comments on the team, the coaches, the players or team tactics please do not hesitate to contact John Pearce or myself.

 IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE and I will not tolerate such negative comments towards any member of the coaching team or players from the sidelines.
