After a fun filled week of trying to raise a team and find a mini bus, the girls and coaches finally set off in convoy at 10.00 on Sunday. The coaches lost the girls as they approached the A1 and decided to do a tour of West Yorkshire. Forty minutes later they were reunited and set off once again.
The game started very well with the Demons defending for a good ten minutes. Alas, the backs got sucked in and Durham broke through to score the first of many tries. The Demons appeared to fall apart and Durham ran through with what seemed like most of the Demons standing still and letting everything past!!!!! With ten minutes to go to half time Lara Croft (scrum half, skip) had to come off injured but put up a good fight to stay on. Beanie put in some fantastic flying tackles but unfortunately by half time Durham were 6 tries up with only one conversion.
During half time Little and Large gave the Demons a boot up the backside and enforced the meaning of teamwork.
With renewed spirit the Demons started the second half with vigour. They also had their scrum half and skipper return with a vengeance, although the run of play remained the same. Sicknote however made a storming run with legs open when everyone else had given up, to chase down Durhams nippy no9. Well done, Sicknote, you forced her to hesitate and allow Psycho to put in the tackle. Other major contributions came from Trumpet who did some bone crunching tackles (stop taking lessons from Psycho). The highlight of the game for the Demons came with five minutes left. Lara Croft received the ball at pace from a deep pass off Psycho. Lara outpaced the two defenders but alas the final defender grabbed her shirt and pulled her into touch.
Tiggers presence back in the team was a definite plus and much appreciated by her team mates. The propping was awesome and the rucking was well executed.
Final Score 70 Nil (we cant work out where all their points came from as not many tries were converted).
Well done to the girls who have had their first game today you all played well.
Again the Demons played with lots of guts and spirit.
Coaches comments Jimmy Crankie, Psycho, Rabbit and Lara Croft Played really well and kept everyone going. Well Done.
