The home side started the match with high intensity, making Doncaster defend their territory and were awarded a penalty on the 22, for a player offside at the ruck. The penalty was successfully slotted, placing Harrogate in an early three point lead after only five minutes of play. The home side maintained the pressure on the Doncaster defence and their left winger went over for a try in the corner after fourteen minutes. The South Yorkshire visitors upped their game and the forwards set up a great platform for the backs to work from. After sustained pressure from Doncaster, Harrogate was awarded a penalty just 5m from their try line. The home side elected to kick the ball deep into the visitor’s territory. Fullback Kyle Billam collected the ball in the Doncaster half and spear headed an attacked down the right wing, Ben Wright took the final pass to go in for Doncaster’s only score of the day, the conversion being missed. Doncaster put up a great performance for the balance of the half but the score line remained 8-5 at the break in favour of Harrogate.
The start of the second half saw continued heart from the visitors, but after 8 minutes they were penalised for an infringement at the ruck, which gave Harrogate an easy 3 points from 18m. The match continued to be a close contest, but after twenty six minutes Harrogate scored a well worked try from a line out just inside the Doncaster half and their left winger went over for his second score of the day. The try was converted and the score remained Harrogate 18 – Doncaster 5 until full time. |
