The Home side took the game to Huddersfield Colt’s from the first whistle and secured the lead with a well taken drop goal from fly half Rickie Tipper after just three minutes of play. Doncaster maintained intense pressure on the opposition, missing try opportunities in both corners, before being awarded a penalty from fifteen metre’s, the visitors being offside at the ruck, the successful kick moved the score to 6 - 0. Despite three breakouts by Huddersfield, the home side maintained the pressure on the opponents defence and were awarded with a try in the right hand corner scored by winger Jamie Mcree. The conversion kick was missed and the score at the break was 11 – 0 in favour of the home side.
After the turn around the Doncaster forwards stamped their mark on the match, despite a huge effort from the opposition. The pressure exerted by the Doncaster Pack was rewarded twice in the second half, firstly with quick ball from a 5m lineout on the left wing and a well worked move by the backs which put Jamie Mcree in for the second time in the right hand corner. Secondly with just four minutes remaining James Cuthbertson ran in a try from quick ball under the posts which was converted by Sam Palmer. At the final whistle Doncaster could be proud of a fine performance against tough opponents with a score of 23 – 0. |
