Further Information on Bramley:

Phoenix travelled to Bramley last Saturday in an expected close fought encounter and came away with the points after Lowcock went over seven minutes from time.

Inclusions were the Elliot brothers Tim at fly half and younger brother Tom on the wing with Stewart reverting to the wing. The pack remained unchanged from the week previous.

Phoenix started the game at pace and battered the home defence with strong foray’s from the pack combined with deft distribution from Elliot at no 10. This resulted in a score for Elliot (Tim) after weaving his way through two players with Stewart adding the conversion.

Doncaster increased their lead with a further three points courtesy of Stewart’s boot after more of the same pressure.

Not to be outdone the home side responded with a rugby league style try when the inside centre received the ball twenty yards out, surged sideways and found a gap in the centre and went through to score under the posts with the two points an easy addition.

The visitors then put pressure on through the forwards and won a line seven yards out on the right, the resulting catch and drive made them more yardage with the ever improving Kaihau emerging with the ball to go over uncontested, 15-10.

It was the home side that finished the half off with a drop goal from their hooker and skipper making it 15-13 on the break.

The second half was again an a back and forth affair with Stewart increasing the lead with another penalty. However the home side responded with another penalty and again the skipper allowing the home side to take the advantage with yet another drop goal 19-18.

This resulted in a pulsating last quarter with
Doncaster battering the line only for the home side defence to hold out and clearing the line for what they thought was safety! However, Doncaster got back in the corner with a line out which was duly won. The ball was spun to centre Lowcock who barged over for a converted try under the sticks and two points for the visitors.

This was a hard fought victory and training and fitness is now starting to show dividends against committed opposition such as Bramley.
