Knights Sign Back Row Sam Daly

The club are thrilled to announce the signing of back row Sam Daly ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Sam arrives from Watsonians in the Scottish Super6 league where he excelled in his position, garnering attention from Edinburgh Rugby who subsequently signed him on a partnership deal with Watsonians.

Discussing Sam’s signing, Head Coach Steve Boden said: “We’re really excited to be working with Sam to see how far he can take his rugby, as he’s got a raw ability. He’s a very dynamic ball carrier and very explosive into contact.

“We feel he fits the style of rugby we want to play. And the character that he is, I think he’ll fit in really well at Doncaster Knights. So, we’re excited to see him play.”

Sam originally joined Watsonians having not played rugby throughout the repeated COVID-19 lockdowns. Prior to his time in the Scottish capital, the young forward spent four seasons with Plymouth Albion RFC.

The 24-year-old back rower is excited to add his best to the Doncaster Knights shirt alongside his new teammates.

“I chose to sign with the Knights because of, firstly, the history of the club and its illustrious reputation.

“I also believe that it will be the perfect place, with the coaches and players that Doncaster have, they will in turn help me to develop as a player and play a big role in my career.”

We look forward to seeing what Sam can bring to the squad throughout 2022/23.

Knights Sign Tighthead Prop Mak Wilson

The club are thrilled to announce the signing of tighthead prop Mak Wilson ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Mak arrives from Premiership side Harlequins where he made 5 appearances for the established top-flight side since joining in July 2020.

Discussing Mak’s signing, Head Coach Steve Boden said: “We’re delighted to get Mak Wilson on board with us. He’s a young prop who has shown he’s got a good scrummaging ability for a player of such a young age.

“We’re looking to further develop Mak’s game around the field and see where he can take his rugby as an ambitious young player – all of this means he fits in to what we look for at Doncaster Knights.”

Mak’s rugby career originally began at Duns Rugby Club in the Scottish borders. He developed through their ranks before making the switch to Melrose for 2018/19 and then featuring for their Super6 side, Southern Knights. His work there afforded him the opportunity to earn Scottish U20 caps as he excelled for the side in the U20 Six Nations in 2020.

The 21-year-old front rower is relishing the idea of benefiting from the positive environment fostered by the Knights squad and moving a little closer to home at the same time.

“When the opportunity to come to Doncaster Knights came up, I was buzzing. By all accounts, Doncaster is a club with a really good culture, and finishing second last year in the table, really seem to be going places.

“Plus, it’s a chance for me to move back north and be closer to home, in a proper city with my kind of people.”

We look forward to seeing what Mak can bring to the squad throughout 2022/23.

Knights Sign Lock Ehize Ehizode

The club are thrilled to announce the signing of lock Ehize Ehizode ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Ehize arrives from fellow Championship London Scottish where he featured frequently for the capital side throughout the 2021/22 season, having joined the club last summer from National One side, Chinnor.

Discussing Ehize’s signing, Head Coach Steve Boden said: “We’re delighted to get Ehize on board at Doncaster Knights. He’s a big man whose got great physical attributes for a second row and he just needs to work on his technical side of the game.

“We feel like he’s got all of the raw attributes to really kick on and see where his rugby and his ambition can take him. He’s a really good guy who we know will fit in well in our environment, and help enhance it, which is one of the most important points.”

Ehize’s career originally began as a back-rower before moving forward to the second row. He developed through the Wasps Academy, a side which he represented at U18 and A-league level. He also spent time in the Bristol Bears academy before also experiencing playing for Dings Crusaders and Hartpury.

The 24-year-old lock is focusing on utilising all of the opportunities and learnings that his time in Doncaster can afford him in the hopes of bettering his game at a higher level.

“Doncaster Knights is a club which is known for moulding forwards into class Premiership players. As a lock, I want to challenge myself at a higher level to excel in my position and for the benefit of my team this season.”

We look forward to seeing what Ehize can bring to the squad throughout 2022/23.

Knights Sign Centre Robbie Smith

The club are thrilled to announce the signing of centre Robbie Smith ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Robbie arrives from Championship opposition Hartpury, having originally signed for their first team ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Discussing Robbie’s signing, Head Coach Steve Boden said: “We’re really excited about having Robbie at Doncaster Knights. He’s someone that I’ve looked to have on board for a couple of years and it’s great that he’s taken the plunge into full-time rugby.

“We feel that he’s got the skillset and the pace to really take our attack to another level – we’re excited to see what Robbie can do in a Doncaster shirt. First and foremost, beside his playing ability, he’s a good bloke so he should fit into our environment pretty seamlessly.”

Before graduating to Hartpury’s Championship side in the last three years, Robbie was previously an integral part of the university’s Super BUCS team. For his many features in a Hartpury shirt, Robbie was previously elected to the Rugby Paper’s Championship Team of the Season.

The 25-year-old centre is looking forward to throwing himself into training with a new squad and set of coaches, ready for another Championship season.

“I’m excited by the opportunity that Doncaster Knights have given me. I’m looking forward to challenging myself in a top full-time, positive environment and getting stuck in with a good group of boys.”

We look forward to seeing what Robbie can bring to the squad throughout 2022/23.

Knights Sign Full-Back/Wing George Simpson

The club are thrilled to announce the signing of full-back/wing George Simpson ahead of the 2022/23 season.

“It’ll be exciting to see him in a Knights shirt.”

As well as featuring for Hartpury, George has Championship experience with Ealing Trailfinders. This accompanies BUCS Super Rugby caps with Cardiff Met University, age-grade rugby with Harlequins and A League or Sevens involvement with Wasps and London Irish.

Will arrives from Exeter University Rugby in the Super BUCS league where he made 35 appearances, scoring 11 tries.

Discussing Will’s signing, Head Coach Steve Boden said: “Will is someone that we’ve tracked for the last 18 months during a very successful period for him playing in the BUCS Super League. Will is young, ambitious and fits the mindset that we like to go with here at Doncaster Knights.

“He’s a little bit unproven, but we feel he’s got all of the raw ingredients to kick on to be a top-quality nine – and a good foundation of that is his strong passing and kicking game.

“We’re really excited to see what Will can do in his time at Doncaster as we’re sure he’ll add great value to the squad.”

As well as excelling for Exeter University, Will has experienced short bouts of Premiership rugby – appearing twice for Exeter Chiefs and twice for Leicester Tigers.

The 22-year-old half-back is elated at the chance to transition straight from university rugby into a full-time, professional environment – one which he hopes will provide him the tools to push on with his playing style.

“I’m really excited to step into a full-time, professional set-up with Doncaster Knights. It’s a really ambitious young squad which Bodes has created and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in.

“Exeter University has set me up really well for professional rugby, but I feel the next year at the Knights will really push my game to the next level.”

We look forward to seeing what Will can bring to the squad throughout 2022/23.

Discussing Jared’s signing, Head Coach Steve Boden said: “We see a lot of potential in Jared. He’s got a good all-round game – he’s strong defensively and is good with ball in-hand.

“He’s young, hungry and ambitious, and he’s looking to make a change from part-time rugby to full-time rugby, so we’re hoping to see where his ambition takes him.”

“I’m happy to have joined Doncaster Knights as it’s a really exciting club that’s challenging at the top of the Championship, and the full-time set-up will hopefully allow me to develop and grow as a player.”

We look forward to seeing what Jared can bring to the squad throughout 2022/23.

Knights Sign Tighthead Prop Karl Garside

The club are thrilled to announce the signing of tighthead prop Karl Garside ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Karl arrives at Castle Park from Premiership side Northampton Saints where he made 12 appearances for the Franklin’s Gardens outfit since joining in 2018 following a successful trial period.

Throughout his time at Northampton, Karl experienced loan time with Bedford Blues during the 2020/21 season as part of Saints’ partnership with the fellow Championship side.

Discussing Karl’s signing, Head Coach Steve Boden said: “Karl is a player who we’ve tracked for some time. He’s a young tighthead whose had limited exposure, and we feel that as a club we can help him get more exposure at a good level and really push his career in the right direction.
