Knights name side for first game of 2020

The Knights travel to Kingston Park tomorrow evening (8pm KO) to face GK IPA Championship leaders Newcastle Falcons.

Doncaster faced the former Premiership side last month in a closely fought contest at Castle Park, with the home side scoring two tries, but were eventually beaten 14-43.

The Falcons have yet to lose this season and enter the new year after an away victory at Ealing Trailfinders. While, in the rest of December, Newcastle defeated both Jersey Reds and the Knights.

Clive Griffiths’ side will travel north on the back of beating local rivals Yorkshire Carnegie 19-40 last month as the six try win boosted Donny to five points above 11th placed Bedford Blues and two points away from ninth place.

Regarding the team news, it is a similar team that secured the victory at the Emerald Headingley Stadium. Marc Thomas and Andrew Foster enter the starting side for Robin Hislop and Colin Quigley, while Will Holling is set for his first Championship start in place of Ben Hunter.

Matt Smith and Michael Hills remain injured, while Jack Roberts and Dougie Flockhart continue on their road to recovery.

Captain for tomorrow’s game Matt Challinor spoke earlier in the week about embracing the challenge of facing the unbeaten Newcastle side.

“I think you’ve got to enjoy it, they are a quality side with quality individuals.

They haven’t lost at home, but you can go into the game thinking you’re up against it or you can embrace it, we know it is a big challenge, but that is what we are looking to do.”
