DKTV | Matt Challinor set for 250th Knights game
13th February 2020
This weekend, Matt Challinor is set for his 250th appearance for the Knights as Jersey Reds visit Castle Park on Saturday.
The lock has been at the club since joining from Rotherham Titans in 2010 and is very proud to reach the landmark.
“It is a big achievement for myself. It is something i am very proud of and when i first joined the club it wasn’t something that i could envisage playing 10 seasons.”
Chall was the stand out player in the Knights promotion winning campaign in 2013/14, starting every single game, winning of the Players’ Player of the Season and being selected in The Rugby Paper’s Team of the Year. The 34-year-old recalls that title winning year as a big moment for him.
“On a personal note getting us back to the Championship was a highlight, it was a really tough year. I was the captain that year so i felt the pressure to get us back up after the relegation the previous year.
Another was the night in Bristol, we gave them a good battle in the Championship play-off final.”
The talismanic forward has continued to be a cornerstone of the Knights pack and has seen a number of second-row partners come and go whilst standing firm in jersey number four.
Challinor started twenty-two fixtures in the 2016/17 season as well as making 23 appearances during the 2018/19 campaign.
Looking to next season Matt is hoping to remain at Castle Park and is still feeling fit and injury free.
“As it stands at the moment i still feel fit. I think i can contribute to the side. That could change next week or next year, but i am looking forward to the future.”
