Doncaster battle the Pirates and the elements to edge a 15-15 draw in Cornwall.

The Knights worked hard to level the scores in the final 5 minutes during a rainy and windy trip to The Mennaye. The hosts made the first move with a try from full back, Iwan Price-Thomas. They moved the ball out wide to gain the meters up the wing, before passing the ball back inside to the 15. 5-0.

The Knights then picked up the momentum as Joe Margetts placed a brilliant return kick deep into Pirates half, he then applied the pressure, forcing Cornish to kick it out on the full.

Donny continued to build and a line out steal from Ben Murphy kept them on the front foot. Moments later, Matt McNab powers of the line against his old club. Donny moved the ball quickly as he ran onto the ball at pace, opening the gap for him to dot it down under the sticks. Russell Bennett added the extras to go 5-7 up.

Pirates are the next to go over the whitewash, a powerful carry off the line out ignites there attack, before they display a series of offloads to open the space and an inside ball to scrum half Dan Hiscoks finishes the job. This time the conversion is added. 12-7.

The hosts continue to attack at Donny, and the forwards win a crucial scrum penalty on the 5m line to hold them out. But after a while of relentless defence from the Knights, a tackle in the air gifts them the chance to kick for three.

Half time score, 15-7.

The weather began to play an even bigger part in the second half, with the rain and the wind both worsening. It was a battle of set-piece, and the Donny forwards worked really well to keep the Knights in the game. Both scrums and line outs were almost spotless, and eventually Donny snatched another try.

The Knights moved the ball quickly and Connor Edwards thew a long ball to Telusa Veainu. Veainu then whipped the ball across to second row, Morgan Jones, who was out on the wing. Jones showed some lovely footwork to step around the final defender before sliding over in the corner. 15-12.

Both teams struggled to find any way of getting points as they battled with the weather conditions, but another massive scrum from the forwards set Bennett up for a final three points.

Despite the conditions, Bennett slotted it comfortably to level the scores. Full time 15-15.

The Knights now turn their attention to a huge opposition week. Doncaster host Worcester Warriors at Castle Park on Saturday 25th October. Grab your tickets now!
