The Knights secured a third consecutive victory after Dougie Flockhart scored a hat-trick of tries to inspire a sensational display at Castle Park today.

The winger put 24 points on the board after three tries, three conversions and a penalty, while Tom James dotted down his eight of the season and Lloyd Hayes grabbed one on his return to the side.

Doncaster started on the front foot with a try within the opening 10 minutes. Steve McColl put in a clever delicate kick into the corner from just outside Richmond 22 and Flockhart reacted first to dive over and give the Knights the lead. However, the winger missed the conversion.

The rest of the half was spent mostly in the Doncaster half with the visitors consistently on the attack. Yet the Knights’ defence held firm on several occasions and kept Richmond at bay and allowed for the 5-0 lead to be held until the interval.

Flockhart was again on hand to extend the lead to 8-0 after a penalty from a central position in the visitors 22 early in the second half.

The winger scored his second try of the afternoon from a flowing Doncaster move. Some great passing from the half way line into the Richmond 22 down the right wing saw Flockhart stretch away and dive over to make it 13-0 to the Knights.

That began a rout for the Knights as the hosts showed their sensational attacking capabilities with another three tries.

Lloyd Hayes, on his return to the side, dotted down after breaking away inside the Richmond 22 as Doncaster pinned the visitors into their half for most of the second half.

Flockhart converted that try to make the scoreline 20-0 and give breathing space going into the last 20 minutes.

Just five minutes later, James extended the lead further with a well worked move. The scrum-half received the ball off the back of the line out and found a gap to dot down with ease from within the visitors 22. Flockhart again converted to hand a 27-0 lead to the home side.

The pressure didn’t stop there from the Knights and with the confidence of two wins previously the players were playing with confidence and smiles on their faces at Castle Park.

Flockhart grabbed his hat-trick 12 minutes from the final whistle after another good passing move down the right. The 33 year-old stretching away once again to dot down and then composed himself to convert from a tight angle near the touchline.

Richmond had the last say after intercepting a pass on the half way line to score, but could do nothing to dampen the cheers of the Castle Park crowd at full time as Doncaster romped to deserving 34-7 victory.
