Hooker George Roberts signs from RGC 1404.

The Knights latest acquisition is confirmed in the form of young gun hooker George Roberts.

The 22-years-old arrives from RGC 1404 having enjoyed a breakout campaign with the North Walians before lockdown was enforced.

Roberts has spent all of his senior career at RGC, signing from the Academy in 2016.

The mobile hooker combined playing for The Gogs with studying Sports Science, winning a rugby scholarship at Bangor University.

Head Coach Steve Boden admits that George is a player he has had his eye on for a while and that he believes can develop successfully in a full time environment. “George is a player I’ve tracked, he’s a good athlete and has a good turn of pace for a front row and a very high work rate.

“The set piece will be an area of development for him, especially with the step up to Championship level but with the hunger he has to learn we believe he can make the jump and we’re excited to see where he can go.”

Having graduated in summer 2019, George turned his focus solely to his rugby and went on a steep upward trajectory last season as he featured in 15 of RGC’s 17 league games with the Colwyn Bay side outscoring every other side in the division.

George was named Player of the Nonth for February 2020 and earned plenty of plaudits in the end of season review and now the explosive front-rower says he’s ready to tackle life as a Knights head on.  “Being submerged in a professional rugby environment is an opportunity I can’t wait for.

“When Steve explained his strategy for the Club and the future for Doncaster it coincided with my personal goals both as a person and as a rugby player

“My main focus both is to develop, both on and off the rugby field. For the Knights, I want do to everything I can to help the team and to perform to the highest possible standard come Saturday afternoon.

“I also really want to enjoy playing rugby at Doncaster and build healthy positive relationships with players, staff and the fans!!”

George’s signing takes the total of confirmed 2020/21 squad members to twenty-four.
