John Edwards.

We regret that we have been told that John Edwards has passed away, aged 80, after long periods of ill health bravely fought. We offer our deepest sympathy to his wife Gaynor, his family and his friends.

John moved to Doncaster from South Wales in 1972 when he took up the appointment as headmaster at Maltby Grammar School.  He played full back for the 1st XV for two seasons before retiring to become Club Coach. Around that time the RFU introduced rugby for junior age groups and John, as an experienced coach at schoolboy level, took on the role as the club’s first ever Head of Junior/Mini Rugby, a post he filled for several seasons before his teaching career took him back to South Wales. When he retired from teaching he and Gaynor moved to their beloved Pembrokeshire where he sadly passed away. He will always be remembered as the member who introduced junior rugby to the club.
