Joyce joins to add back row fire power.

Back row Conor Joyce become the Knights newest addition, signing from Jersey Reds for the 2020/21 campaign.

Conor arrives off a stellar campaign on the Island, featuring for the Reds fifteen times in 2019/20 before the season was prematurely ended.

The 26-year-old signed for Jersey in 2017 and arrives in South Yorkshire having made over 50 appearances in Cup & league competition and Head Coach Steve Boden believes that he can flourish in his new-look Knights back-row. “Conor has proven experience at Championship level but we feel he still has growth in his game.

“He has shown very good leadership qualities and has a high work rate, he is very ambitious with a good lineout and aerial skills and I’m really looking forward to working with him at Castle Park.”

Born in Solihull, Joyce actually developed as a professional with PRO14 heavyweights Ulster; spending five years with the organization in all.

Aged 18 & 174 days Conor made his Ulster debut in a Boxing Day trip to Leinster in 2011, which made him the youngest player to ever represent an Irish province in the league.

Conor went on to make handful of first team appearances as well as featuring regularly in the Ulster British & Irish Cup side.

During his time in Belfast Joyce was named the Ireland Under-20s captain in an age group where the back-row options included Dan Leavy, Josh van der Flier and Jack O’Donoghue.

On joining the Knights, Joyce says he is excited by the plans new boss Steve Boden has for 2020 and beyond. “Speaking with Bodes and hearing his vision and aspirations for the Club were something that attracted me.

“I definitely feel like the playing structure he wants to coach will be exciting to watch and will highlight my best attributes!

“Donny have been a big Club in the Championship for many years and I’m looking forward to the challenge of hitting the heights of some of their best seasons to date.”

“When the season starts I’m looking forward to competing for my position at the Club, getting to know the new squad and facing different challenges to what I’ve previously faced.

“Bodes is building a young motivated squad with some experienced players like myself so I’m looking forward to getting started and putting my best foot forward for the season.”

Conor’s signing takes the total of confirmed 2020/21 squad members to sixteen.
