With the 2021/22 Greene King IPA Championship fixtures due to be confirmed next week, the Club are pleased to announce the first of several new signings for the upcoming campaign in the form of scrum half Alex Dolly.
The 25-year-old arrives at Castle Park having enjoyed a fine season with Nottingham which saw him selected into the Championship Clubs Podcast team of the season for 2021.
Having grown up in Australia, Alex is English-qualified through his grandfather and moved to the UK in 2017 to join his younger brother, Nic, a hooker currently on the books with Leicester Tigers.
Commenting on Alex’ signing Head Coach Steve Boden said. “Alex is someone we’ve tracked for a couple of years. He fits our recruitment plan as a young, ambitious player wanting to further his career. His basic core skill set of kick and pass is of a high standard and we’re looking for working with Alex to further grow his game.”
Alex got his first taste of rugby in the UK with Fylde where played 21 times before earning a move to Jersey Reds, showing his versatility to play in either half-back position, or at fullback.
Alex spent the 2018/19 season with Rotherham Titans in National One before signing with the Green and Whites in April 2019.
Alex featured 28 times for Nottingham and is now looking forward to testing his mettle in a Donny jersey. “I think Bodes is building something special here in Donny and I want to be a part of that.
Having seen the facilities, how they played and where they finished last year it was opportunity I was thrilled to get and I just can’t wait to get stuck in.”
