Clive delighted with victory over Coventry

Doncaster became just the second side to beat Coventry at the Butts Park Arena this season with a 23-17 victory today.

Director of Rugby Clive Griffiths was delighted to claim the deserved victory. “To come here and get the win is unbelievable, they’ve been beaten just once here this season. We knew it was going to be a tough match but we matched them and were deserved winners.”

The Knights were ahead at the interval with a 7-5 and showed their determination to fightback after Coventry scored early in the second half.

“At half-time we knew exactly what we needed to do, then for them to score that try straight away it was tough to take, the boys dug in today and then they scored from a penalty with their third try, but I thought we were well worthy winners because our defence was terrific, especially before half-time to hold out.

What pleased me most was the fight and togetherness, we showed everyone that Doncaster Knights are still around and we’ve got players that want to win and want to do well for the club.

It has been a long time coming and we’ve kept getting close in games and today it was an outstanding performance from the boys. They all did well and I thought the scrum was excellent.”

Next week the Knights travel to bottom placed Hartpury looking to claim their fifth away win of the season, with Clive confident the Knights can get another win.

“We have to back that up, we can’t take our foot of the gas, we know what we need to fix against Hartpury, but we will be confident that we can get another victory.”
