Matt Smith aims to be a part of one the best forward packs in the league

Matt Smith is looking to add his work rate to the Knights squad and hopes to be a part of the forward pack ‘one of the best in the league.’

The second row signed in the summer from Yorkshire Carnegie after playing more than 150 games for the Leeds based side and Matt believes he can add his hard work ethic to the squad.

“One of my big things is work rate, I work hard around the pitch and try get through a lot of work and then obviously in the set-piece being a tall guy, I enjoy the line outs so hopefully we can make ourselves one of the best packs in the league through our set-piece.”

The 29-year-old has featured against Doncaster several times in his career, a factor that made the decision to sign a one-year-deal with the Knights even easier.

“I’ve played down here quite a few times and coming down to meet Clive and listening to the goals that he has for the club going forward it was quite an easy decision once he told me what we wanted to do for the club.”

I know the pitch and in my opinion is one of the best in the league, there are a great set of fans down here and knowing quite a few boys as well also makes it a bit easier to settle in.”

Looking to the campaign ahead, the lock is aware of the aims of the club and believes the new coaches and summer signings will help to improve on the Knights position in the table compared to last season.

“I think as everyone has said there is a bit of a change going around here with some new coaches and new signings coming in, some new philosophies, so we want to finish as high as possible this season as the boys weren’t happy with where they finished last season. As a squad this year we want to make that right and get looking up the table rather than down.”
