In the junior section of Doncaster Knights there have been several successes and notable stars for the future to watch out for this season.
In the U18s, the Yorkshire Bowl was claimed after a tremendous and battling 19-14 victory over Pocklington in a rainy Huddersfield in early April.
In the U18's girls section, Annie Campbell played and dotted down for Yorkshire while the U15's Doncaster Demons’ players Anna King and Louise Dawson scored a commendable five tries between them for Yorkshire. The U15's side also performed superbly to win the Pocklington 7s festival title in late April.
Amongst the U17's boys, four players (Charlie Fox, David Moores, Ethan Tweddle, Callum Posa) represented Yorkshire while stand out U15's player Rowan Sharpe also played for the county.
Another outstanding achievement that demonstrates the ability of the players and impressive coaching that is in the U14s age group was that six players (Harry Sleightholme, William Messham, Max Brown, Joe Etherington, Henry White and Max Whiteman) were selected to represented the Yorkshire ERDPP (English Rugby Development Player Programme) with three others also going for trials.
While in the U12s a great team spirit was shown in the side going on an impressive feat of losing just three matches of the 26 they played and won every game at the Burleigh and Hull Ionians festival!
Just an age group above in the U13s it was also a remarkable season for the team. A noteworthy 44 registered players are in the age group which means that they regularly are able to run 2 teams on a Sunday.
Of the 44 registered players, between local school and club nominations this season they have 19 players going to the ERDPP (England Rugby Developing Player Programme) (17 to Yorkshire Carnegie & two to Leicester Tigers).
While the stars of the future really shone when the U9s won the ‘Spirit of the Game’ award at the Burleigh Festival on the 14th April. Congratulations also go to the U8s who have taken part in their First Tour & First Major Festival.
