The Knights are delighted to announce the, not so, new signing of hooker David Nelson who makes his move to Castle Park permanent for 2017/18
The 22-year-old hooker has been dual-registered with the Knights from Newcastle Falcons for the 2016/17 campaign and has made 10 appearances this term.
Nelson makes the move having spent ten years at Kingston Park, joining the Academy at the tender age of 12. Whilst in the Academy Nelson has been a regular feature for the Falcons A team and enjoyed a stint on loan with Tynedale in National One.
Dave’s progression saw him make his Falcons debut against Bucharest Wolves in the 2014/15 European Rugby Challenge Cup and he has gone on to feature eight times for the Falcons first team.
The 22-year-old will compete with Ben Hunter for starting berth at hooker as he becomes the sixth new signing of the season and Kendo is pleased to have his services in the forward pack next term. “Nelly has been with us all season and fit straight in with the squad, he’s an exciting young hooker and does his basics at the set piece really well.
“He’s explosive around the park and fits into the game we try and play, he’s had offers from several other clubs in the league and I’m delighted to have him with us full time next season.”
Nelson will hope to mark his signing by impressing from the bench in tomorrow’s play-off semi-final and has big ambitions for his time as a Knight. “I’m really excited about signing, I’ve had a great time down here on loan and mixed in with the lads really well.
“I enjoy the type of rugby we play and I’m looking forward to being here full time next season.
“Next year we’ll want to give the best possible account of ourselves every week, look to win every game we go into which will be even more important next year without the play-offs.”
