The Knights front row receives a boost today as it is announced that 26-year-old prop forward Ian Williams signs from Rotherham Titans.
Williams joins the Knights ahead of the 2017/18 season and will compete with Colin Quigley and Joe Sproston for the number three jersey at Castle Park.
An Oxford University graduate, Williams earned many plaudits for a dominant performance in the 2013 Varsity Match against Cambridge and was subsequently selected to represent Wales Students.
Standing at 6’4 and weighing just shy of twenty-stone Ian will add a significant physical present to the Knights front row and Director of Rugby Clive Griffiths is please with the acquisition. “Ian was one of the best up and coming props in the Championship last season and was highly regarded by former Rotherham coach Justin Burnell.
“He adds to the list of young players we have recruited this term as we continue to build a Knights squad with the future in mind and he provides welcome competition on the tight head side of the scrum.
Ian will link up with his teammates in June for pre-season and states that he is delighted to make the move to Castle Park. “First of all, I would just like to thank all those involved at Rotherham Titans, and especially the fans, for what was a tough but enjoyable first season for me in the Championship.
“After meeting with Clive and Kendo and hearing the vision the coaching staff have for Doncaster, I am delighted to have now signed for the Knights.
“The set-up at Castle Park is top class, and an environment where I feel not only can I contribute a lot to the team and the Club, but also learn a lot while I pursue my own ambitions of playing at the higher level of the Premiership.
“I am really looking forward to linking up with the rest of the squad in pre-season and getting stuck into some hard work ready to build on the Club’s great success to date."
