SIGNING | Scrum half James signs from Blues.

The Knights are please to announce the fifth new arrival ahead of the 2017/18 as scrum half Tom James signs from Championship rivals Bedford Blues.

The 23-year-old former England Students and Loughborough Students player joins the Knights following an impressive debut season in the Championship with the Blues making 17 appearances and scoring twice; including one against the Knights.

Prior to his arrival at Goldington Road James was a key performer for National League One outfit Loughborough Students, captaining the side and touching down for ten tries to earn an England Students call up at the end of 2015/16.

Tom’s versatility could also prove beneficial as he is adept at scrum-half, wing and full-back boasting an impressive kicking game and, having proved a thorn in the Knights in previous seasons, Griff is glad to have captured his services.  “We have come up against Tom several times in recent seasons, firstly in National One whilst he was at Loughborough and more recently against Bedford were fans may remember him running through us in the game in January.

“He is a well-rounded player with a good skill-set and will certainly add to us in the scrum half position.”

Having got a taste for Championship rugby this season Tom believes that Castle Park and the Knights provide the perfect environment for him to thrive going forward. “I’m delighted to be signing for the Knights for the upcoming season. It is a fantastic setup at Castle Park and the quality of the club and players has shown in the last two years.

“The winning rugby they’re playing is something I’m excited to be a part of and after meeting with Clive Griffiths and Francis Cummins it was clear straight away that Doncaster was the right place for me to keep developing.”
