The Knights announce the first signing ahead of the 2018/19 campaign as loose head Toby Williams joins from Rotherham Titans.
Williams arrives with a wealth of Championship experience behind him, departing the Titans as their longest serving current player, having first signed for the Club in June 2013 and making 86 appearances.
The move to Clifton Lane was Toby’s first professional rugby union contract after switching codes from rugby league where he competed for Keighley Cougars and York City Knights before trying his hand at the 15-a-side game with Otley.
Williams’ performances for Otley earned him selection to the Yorkshire senior squad where he caught the eye of former Titans Head Coach Lee Blackett who quickly moved to secure his services for the 2013/14 campaign
The 31-year-old made a handful of appearances in his debut season as the Titans reached the end of season play-offs. Toby became a mainstay in the Titans pack in 2014/15 as Rotherham went on to reach the play-offs for a second season running.
Commenting on Toby’s signing, Director of Rugby Clive Griffiths said. “We’re delighted to welcome Toby to Castle Park, he has been one of the stand out props in the Championship for many seasons.
“Whenever we play Rotherham he is a player we know we have to look out for.
“He is a powerful, low to the ground, scrummager and a real threat with ball in hand.
“He will be a most welcome addition to our squad and provide healthy competition on the left hand side of the scrum.”
