Squad update | Wayland & Hill released from contracts.
10th September 2020
Doncaster Knights can confirm that props James Wayland & Tom Hill will no longer join the club for the 2020/21 season.
22-year-old Aussie loose-head Wayland has suffered a severe hamstring tear while playing for Southern Districts in the Shute Shield & will be sidelined for several months.
The former Jersey Red will now complete his rehab back home in Sydney.
Though disappointed, Head Coach Steve Boden believes that it is the best choice for all parties. “We arranged a specialist consultation for James & it revealed that his injury will require him to miss a considerable chunk of the season.
“I spoke to James at length and we have decided that the best decision is for him to fully recover at home. He is a talented young player with plenty of years ahead of him and we’ll keep a close eye on his progress once back to full fitness.
Kiwi prop Tom Hill will not link up with the team either as he has elected to stay home amidst uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
“Though it is disappointing to loose Tom for the upcoming season we respect his decision and will stay in close contact with him in case the global picture changes.
“We are now looking at a couple of different loose head options to bring in and will hopefully have some updates soon.
“We continue to hold productive conversations with RFU and are hoping for some positive news about the new season in the not too distant future”
