Steve McColl believes the Knights were unlucky not to win at Jersey

The Knights produced a hard working performance at the Stade Santander International today as they dominated large periods of the game, but left the Channel Islands with a 27-19 defeat.

Steve McColl felt that Doncaster were unfortunate not to come away with any points after a battling performance.

“The final score was definitely harsh on the lads, for us to come out and put a battling performance like that it showed a lot, we are pretty gutted if only a couple of bounces had gone our way it would have been a different story.

The result is hurting, i feel we deserved the victory we just didn’t have much luck in our favour.”

The full-back spoke after the game that the Knights were not far off turning the results around.

“We talked after the game we are playing the right way in the right areas and the rugby we played was on the whole good, it is literally just sometimes that bounce of the ball or the final pass or the last catch that needs to go in our favour.

When the ball is on the floor it is just luck wherever it bounces, but today they got the bounces in their favour and the kicks through worked well for them.”

Doncaster are next in action at Castle Park against Newcastle Falcons on December 7th with Steve still hopeful of gaining qualification for the knockout stages.

“We are still confident, obviously it is Newcastle up next, a big challenge next week. Although we will take pride that we have been playing well at home, our last game against Ealing again we were unlucky, another game we felt were hard done by to not get anything out of and left a lot on the field.

As a team though, we are taking steps forward, particularly because we are doing it hard at the moment with injuries. The boys coming in are filling in well and playing well and that is pleasing to see. Once the bounce of the ball goes in our favour the results will soon change.”
