Tom Hill latest to sign for 2020/21.

The Knights have bolstered their front row options with the addition of loose head prop Tom Hill who signs from Nottingham Rugby.

The 24-year-old signs having spent one season at Lady Bay, making seven appearances for the Green & Whites before the 2019/20 campaign was cut short.

The Kiwi switched to Nottingham last summer having first tasted Championship rugby with Yorkshire Carnegie; joining the West Yorkshiremen in late 2018.

He went on to make a total of fifteen appearances for Carnegie as the Headingley side won ten out of their final thirteen league games with Tom featuring in their 26-12 defeat of London Irish.

It was at Carnegie where Steve Boden first crossed paths with Hill and the new Head Coach says he has just the attitude required for his new-look squad. “Tom is someone I’ve worked with briefly before and know what he can bring, he’s a good guy to have in the environment, a fierce competitor and has a extremely high work rate on both sides of the ball.

“His set piece has developed since he has been in the northern hemisphere and we’re looking forward to his game developing even more with us to see where he can go.”

Despite being just 24-year-old Tom has impressive experience in his homeland as well as in the UK. He made his Mitre 10 Cup debut with Tasman aged just 21 and, following an impressive first season in the competition, signed with Otago for 2018.

Tom developed as 1st XV player at Nelson College, his home town, and gained New Zealand Under-20’s selection for the 2015 Oceania Rugby Junior Championship on Australia’s Gold Coast and now the former Baby Black is looking to make a splash with the Knights. “I’m really excited to sign for Doncaster and to be working with Steve again, I was coached by him in Leeds and he helped improve my set piece a lot from where it was at in New Zealand.

“I’ve played against Doncaster a few times since being in England and know how impressive the set up is; after talking with Steve it sounded like they had a good plan going forward that I want to be a part of.

“My hopes and ambitions with Doncaster are to offer as much as I can on and off the field, really getting stuck in & putting together a consistent season and see how I far I can go.”

Tom’s signing takes the total of confirmed 2020/21 squad members to seventeen.
