Young Jack becomes a Knight
3rd September 2014
18-year-old scrum half Jack Maplesden signs for the Knights.
Jack has been training with the squad through the summer and has impressed in each of his appearances in the Knights pre-season fixtures, so much so that DoR Clive Griffiths has signed him up.
At just 18 Jack will become the youngest member of the Castle Park team and he will combine his playing role with studying Geography at the University of Bristol. Despite his young age Jack has already amassed an impressive CV, born in Leeds he honed his skills at Woodhouse Grove School where he captained the 1st XV to Daily Mail Trophy success in 2013. Last season he was part of Premiership finalists Saracens’ academy and made a handful of appearances in the LV Cup.
Jack’s impressive displays at school and academy level saw him selected for England Under 18s and he will now compete with Bruno Bravo, Brad Field and the newly signed Tomasi Palu for starting birth in a Knights jersey.
Griff had this to say about capturing the signature of young 18 year old Maplesden, ‘I have been nothing but impressed with Jack, and he has shown so much quality and has integrated very well into the Knights family. He is certainly on the conveyor belt for the future but it is a long and tough campaign and Jack is certainly a fantastic addition to the squad. I would like to thank ex Knight Joe Bedford for alerting us about Jack’
